From Passion to Purpose: Shonda Caines & EBN's Vegan Cuisine – A Culinary Journey Rooted in Health, Heritage, and Holistic Wellness

At The Boost Pad, we’re inspired by the stories of our entrepreneurs who take bold steps toward transforming their passions into impactful businesses. One of those remarkable individuals is Shonda Caines, a Cohort 4 participant and the visionary behind EBN’s Vegan Cuisine.

Shonda’s journey began on the vibrant island of St. Thomas, USVI. Her plant-based lifestyle started in childhood, driven by curiosity and compassion, and nurtured by the culinary artistry of her family. These roots became the foundation of her mission: to create delicious Plant Based vegan dishes that honor Caribbean heritage while promoting health and wellness.

*Tie in my Holistic Health and Fitness and Wellness Professional back* Culinary is only a part of my story. EBN'S foundation is built on optimal health, preventative care, quality lifestyles and changing current and future generations*

EBN’s Vegan Cuisine grew from Shonda’s passion for sharing bold Caribbean flavors with her community in a way that felt authentic and accessible. The challenges of adapting traditional dishes to plant-based recipes and sourcing authentic ingredients only fueled her determination. By embracing menu innovation, meaningful collaborations, and excellent customer service, she carved out a unique space in the market, proving that 'Plant Based' vegan food can be both vibrant and soulful.

Joining The Boost Pad has already been a turning point for Shonda. Through expert mentorship, Shonda is gaining the tools to refine her strategies and confidently expand her business. Networking with fellow entrepreneurs brought invaluable support and collaboration, while branding guidance helped strengthen the identity of EBN’s Vegan Cuisine.

Today, EBN’s Vegan Cuisine is thriving, with an expanded menu, a loyal customer base, and a growing online & regional presence (our juices are in a local store in Clt and will be in Greensboro- they can co nect without us online to learn more).

But Shonda’s vision goes beyond food. She’s committed to transforming marginalized communities, supporting preventative health (perhaps what's suggested above can be noted here), and building partnerships with holistic and wellness centers and academic organizations. For her, this is more than a business—it’s a movement rooted in culture, compassion, and change.

Shonda’s passion is deeply personal, inspired by her parents, who are culinary professionals. She believes food has the power to heal, connect, and inspire. With every dish, she’s not just sharing flavors—she’s sharing a story, a heritage, and a vision for better living.

Behind every successful entrepreneurial ecosystem are organizations willing to invest in people with bold ideas. For years, NC IDEA has championed entrepreneurship across North Carolina by helping founders transform innovative ideas into thriving businesses through education, funding, and ecosystem development. The Boost Pad is proud to partner with NC IDEA in creating meaningful opportunities for early-stage entrepreneurs. During Cohort 12 Pitch Night , NC IDEA demonstrated that commitment by sponsoring the $5,000 Startup Currency Award , which was presented to Daija Peeler , founder of SevenSixteen. Presented by Sarah Mixter, Director of Ecosystem Engagement at NC IDEA , the award represented more than funding—it represented confidence in a founder's vision and belief in the impact entrepreneurship can have on communities throughout our state. Building More Than Businesses Entrepreneurship requires more than great ideas. It requires access to resources, relationships, education, and capital. NC IDEA continues to play an important role in helping entrepreneurs bridge those gaps by investing in founders at critical stages of their journey while strengthening the organizations that support them. That mission closely aligns with The Boost Pad's commitment to helping entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses through mentorship, education, community, and access to capital. Expanding Opportunity Every founder deserves the opportunity to pursue their vision. Through programs, grants, ecosystem initiatives, and partnerships, NC IDEA continues creating pathways that make entrepreneurship more accessible across North Carolina. We are grateful for their continued partnership and for their investment in entrepreneurs who are building stronger businesses and stronger communities. Together, we are helping create the next generation of North Carolina founders.

Entrepreneurship flourishes when organizations choose to invest not only in businesses—but in people. The Boost Pad is proud to recognize Ally Bank for its continued commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and strengthening Charlotte's small business ecosystem. As the proud sponsor of both Community Access to Capital and Cohort 12 Pitch Night , Ally helped create opportunities for founders to learn, connect, and prepare for the next stage of their entrepreneurial journeys. From conversations with lenders and investors to Pitch Night presentations before community leaders, Ally's support helped make these transformative experiences possible.
